Health and Nutrition
Ang kalusugan ay kayamanan
(Health is wealth)
A healthy, well-nourished citizenry is necessary to achieve sustainable economic
growth. In the Philippines, the impoverishing effects of illness and malnutrition are
particularly evident among the underprivileged majority who do not have adequate access to
health care services and proper nutrition. Thus the World Bank, in partnership with the
local government units (LGUs), involves itself in efforts to improve public health
programs, systems, and the delivery of basic health care services and facilities.
The World Bank works closely with LGUs in accordance with their long-term health
program goals and provides for improved service delivery, institutional development,
community partnership, and policy and operations research.
The Bank supports projects that protect the poor from the adverse effects of illness,
malnutrition and high fertility, increase access to health care systems, and secure
affordable health care services.
Components and Funding Sources
